| Wreck Alley
& Sentinnel Island - Great
Lake Mead dive! This can either be a technical dive down the to the
6
wrecks, or an awesome sheer wall recreational dive. For
either dive, the mooring is located just east of a rock slide
located at the GPS coordinates, about 50 feet off shore.
Technical dive details:
Visit an astounding 6 wrecks all within range of
this mooring. Tie off your vessel onto the mooring,
descend, and follow the cave line down to the various wrecks.
Here are the wrecks, and approximate elevation/depth:
SS J. Alden Gumby: 962'/145'
SS Carole H: 962'/145'
Southern Cross: 957'/150'
Blue Moon: 932'/175'
Sponge Bob: 922/190'
SB Castle: 1922/190'

these wrecks.
Recreational dive: Really
cool sheer wall diving. When you
dive this site you really get a feel for how deep Lake Mead is,
and how they really just flooded a huge desert canyon and valley
when they built Hoover Dam. Tie off your vessel onto the
mooring, descend to the rock, head south, watch your depth and
pressure, and enjoy your dive.
Located just behind the Boulder
Islands, Sentinel Island is about a quarter
mile from the original path of the Colorado River, so it gets
very deep, very quickly. (On my first dive here, I went
into deco unexpectedly - I didn't realize I was as deep as I
was.) Lots of cool little ravines to swim in.
Typically pretty good visibility too. |
